Positions & living org chart
Build reporting lines people actually use
Why this matters to the boss
An org chart that only lives in PowerPoint goes stale the week after someone changes roles. In Formion, positions are real data: they drive who sees which policy, announcement, and curve.
Two views, one structure
| Page | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Position management | Create / edit / delete positions, set parent–child reporting, assign people |
| Org chart | A visual map of the same structure — easier for leadership reviews |
How to build it (simple method)
Create a root position (for example: CEO, General Manager, or Company).
Add child positions under it (Sales, Ops, Product…).
Keep nesting only as deep as people truly report in real life. Do not invent fake layers for aesthetics.
Assign members to one or more positions. Someone may wear two hats — that is allowed when it matches reality.
Open the org chart view and check that names appear where you expect.
How this connects to the rest of Formion
- Permissions can be granted by position
- Policies / announcements / meeting minutes can target positions
- Metric curves hang under positions so the right people enter and read numbers
Start small
Week 1: only top two layers. Week 2: fill departments. Avoid rebuilding the entire company tree in one afternoon.
